2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
2 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup unsalted butter, chilled
1/3 cup milk
3 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate, melted and cooled at room temperature
1 large egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Methods:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2: Lightly grease a 8-inch diameter circle in the center of the cookie sheet; set aside.
3: In a small microwave safe bowl, melt baking chocolate on medium-high setting until smooth and creamy.
4: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
5: With a pastry blender or knife, cut chilled butter into small 1/2-inch size cubes and stir into flour mixture.
6: In a small bowl, stir together milk, chocolate, egg and vanilla extract.
7: Pour milk mixture into flour mixture and stir to combine.
8: Stir in chopped walnuts. Dough will have to be kneaded with hands to combine well.
9: Spread dough into 7-inch diameter circle onto prepared cookie sheet.
10: With a serrated knife cut into 8 wedges.
11: Bake 17-19 minutes or until toothpick comes out nearly clean when inserted in scone. Better to under bake slightly, than over bake.
12: Let scones set for 1 minute and then carefully re-cut wedges with knife and transfer to a cooling surface.
